This page highlights organizations in the community whose work aligns with Artiano Shinoff’s commitment to youth and education.  The purpose is to share with our clients and others the important work being done across the region.  In this first Spotlight, we focus on an organization supported by our firm through volunteer Board service.

In focus: City Heights Partnership for Children

Artiano Shinoff has a long history of sharing the commitment to educating all San Diegans that drives many of our clients.  This spotlight highlights one highly important effort to re-shape educational opportunities for children in one of San Diego’s poorest communities.

The City Heights Partnership for Children, an initiative founded by Price Charities and implemented by United Way of San Diego, seeks to enhance educational outcomes by focusing on all aspects of a child’s educational needs. The initiative has established measurable goals at every step of the educational process.  These include:

• Getting every child ready for kindergarten
• Emphasis on 3rd grade literacy
• Proficiency in Algebra and English by the 8th grade
• High school graduation; and
• Every child ready for either college or career at graduation

Each of these steps has specific, measurable guidelines to help ensure progress.  Just as our many school district and higher education clients focus on creating the best possible learning environments for its students, this United Way-led initiative is helping create the best possible foundation to give San Diego’s most needy young people an opportunity to succeed.
